The problem
Most garden planning advice is vague. Articles tell you tomatoes are easy or that a 4x8 bed is a good start. Neither tells you whether that bed will actually produce the salads, sauces, or side dishes your household eats. People end up overplanting crops they will never use and underplanting the ones they reach for every week.
The honest answer to “how much garden do I need to feed us?” requires math: yield per plant, how many servings per pound, succession timing, preservation math if you want to put food up for winter. Most gardeners never get that answer. They guess.
What PlotToTable does differently
PlotToTable works backward from your table. You tell it what you want to eat and for how many people. The planner figures out the rest.
The numbers come from a deterministic engine built on cited horticultural data from sources like UGA Cooperative Extension, Clemson Extension, and Johnny’s Selected Seeds. The engine does the math. Plain-English explanations are then written by AI, but the plant counts, sow dates, and spacing are never guessed by AI and never changed by it. That separation matters: the plan you get is reproducible and traceable.
How it works
- Tell it what you eat. Pick the crops your household actually uses. Add how many people you are growing for, your experience level, and your ZIP code for frost dates.
- Get the numbers. PlotToTable calculates how many plants and seeds you need, how much space, when to sow each round, and how to preserve what you grow.
- Grow with a plan. Your season calendar shows every sow date and harvest window in one view. Premium subscribers get planting reminders and a printable PDF to take to the garden.
An honest note on accuracy
Plans are planning estimates. Frost dates, yields, and days to maturity vary by variety, season, soil, and weather. The numbers give you a solid starting point; adjust them to your garden as you go. PlotToTable is a planning tool, not professional agricultural advice.
Current data coverage is strongest for the US Southeast (Zone 8, Georgia frost data) and is expanding. If you are outside that region, the plan is still useful, but treat the frost dates as a reference to verify against your local conditions.

PlotToTable is operated by Sandy Point Holdings Inc., a small company run by an operator who wanted a real answer to the same question. No team of agronomists, no VC backing. Just a tool built to solve a problem that existing garden planners did not actually solve.
